Dear Parents, Students, and Visitors,

Thanks for visiting our school web site.  We hope we provide the information you need to make quality decisions that will ensure academic excellence for all students at Chestnut Log Middle School.  Our faculty and staff provide students and parents with an inviting atmosphere where our goal is to assist students to become the best and the brightest in Douglas County.  We offer classes and activities before school, during school, and after school that support students in making academic progress.

Teachers and staff have been working very hard in improving our reading and math scores.  However, we face a greater challenge in math achievement.  In order to ensure that all students understand the higher expectations in math achievement, it is critical that homework is attempted and completed each night.  Your support in this effort is huge!  We cannot do it without you!

Parent and community involvement is something we strive for at Chestnut Log Middle, and we invite you to become a part of our school.  Have you had unique experiences in your work or in your life that can be shared with our students?  Have you visited China or Egypt recently and can share pictures of life there with our students in their social studies classes?  Perhaps you are a Civil War Re-enactor who can bring that part of American History to life for our eighth grade students?  You may possibly work in the field of medicine or science and could share lab activities with our seventh grade students as they study life science and human growth and development. If you work for the city or county, our students need to understand civic responsibility and how Douglasville is changing. Whatever it may be, we encourage you to share your expertise with our students.  Call your teacher, a counselor, or an administrator for information.

Student agendas/planners are provided to all students.  These planners are school property and as such must be maintained in good condition without inappropriate words, marks, signs, or symbols drawn on them.  And like a textbook, students are expected to replace them if lost.  These planners are designed to support student achievement and enhance school-to-home communication.  Students are encouraged to use their planner every day to write down homework assignments, class projects, and important due dates.  Parents are encouraged to frequently review this planner and offer assistance and support at home to ensure your student's academic progress.

We offer students, teachers and parents a safe place for learning.  It is our goal to assist students in meeting their academic and personal goals.  Every student, every question, every issue is important to us, so always feel free to bring comments, criticism, or compliments to our attention.  Each teacher and administrator has an email address and will respond to your requests. Our doors are always open and you are always a welcome visitor at Chestnut Log Middle School.
